Spain has declared a state of emergency because of the wildfires.

In Spain, the government has declared a state of emergency in the region around Madrid, where more than 10,000 people have been evacuated in recent days.

This is reported by the Spanish media El Pais.

The authorities are unable to control several wildfires in the area around the capital, and therefore residents of the town of Aldea del Fresno west of Madrid have been told to leave the area.

Hundreds of firefighters and soldiers are struggling to control an even larger forest fire in the province of Guadalajara, north of Madrid.

Strong winds and extreme heat in Spain are helping to fuel the wildfires.

In the Valencia area, which includes the Costa Blanca, people are urged to be vigilant. Call 112 or the Guardia Civil if you observe suspicious activity.

Southern Europe is reporting that criminal elements are tying rags with flammable liquid to cats' tails, setting them on fire, and then using them as living torches. Disgusting meen people!

Good advice. Remove all flammables around the property, make sure you have access to hoses.
